Serge Lutens, born 1942 in Lille, France, is a photographer, filmmaker, hair stylist, perfume creator, and accessory, fashion, and packaging designer. He was frequently commissioned by Vogue for work as a hair/makeup artist as well as a stylist who often created the pieces he used. He collaborated with many prolific photographers throughout his career, such as Richard Avedon, Bob Richardson, Guy Bourdin, and Irving Penn. He joined Dior in 1968. Christian Dior commissioned him to create a makeup line in 1973.
He is most well known for his art direction, package design, styling, makeup, and photography for Japanese cosmetics company Shiseido in the 1980s.
